While in Iceland I played around a little bit & tried some Time Lapse Photography. This series was done at 12:15 am while the sun had set. The clouds were so dramatic that they added to the time lapse.

I have been going thru my thousands of images taken in Iceland & this one popped out at me. The photo taken below was near Lake Myvatn in the north of Iceland. The people walking in the image were walking around Viti Crater. If you like this image or would like to see more images from Iceland click CLASSES above. To see more photos of my adventure thru Iceland come back often as there will be daily updates.
I have just returned from an Incredible trip to Iceland with my girlfriend Janet. After 13 days & about 2700 km put on our rental 4 WD Suzuki – Grand Vitara I came home tired but extremely happy with how our trip went with a few minor mishaps along the way. Janet at first was not really that interested in camping in Iceland with me, though after she did some research & agreed to go we had an amazing time. The camping was challenging at times – setting up & tearing down in the rain & high winds. Though this would become a distant memory after seeing another beautiful landscape. I plan on uploading Images in the next few weeks to show some of the beautiful landscapes I photographed along the way. The photo below was take in South East Iceland – taken with incredible winds against us I am surprised neither one of us was thrown over the cliffs let along get an image worthy of use.
I was in Denver – the Mile High city last week for a fun filled photography workshop Meeting of the Masters. This workshop was organized by Jay Kilgore of Denver Colorado. We had 5 amazing photographers from the US and Canada who shared their secrets on Glamour and Fashion photography. I was inspired by David Hickey of California and our own Ivan Otis from Toronto. Check out the slideshow below for some of my images from the workshop.
I love to take photography workshops that will improve my craft. Last week I was in Atlanta working with Zack Arias who is known for his editorial music photography. The workshop interested me because Zack is a master of creating amazing portraits with one light. There were some amazing photographers I met from all over the U.S. Canada & also all the way from Thailand. Zack is a gifted photographer & exceptional educator & I can’t wait to perfect my new found lighting skills with our client’s this year.We spent the day shooting some studio portraits, then early evening we went outside to perfect our lighting techniques. Below are some sample photos which I took during the workshop.
We took a 12 hour train ride named the Reunification Express from Hanoi to Danang and a 1 hour taxi ride to Hoi An. In 1975 the re-establishment of the rail link between Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City became a critical project as a symbol of unity for all Vietnamese, hence the name Reunification Express. Hoi An is a tbeautiful laid back area to take a few days to take in the charming town & taste some of the local specialties in their famous restaurants.
About 2 hours away on mini-bike you can see the Ancient Temples of My Son. Thw World Heritage site of my Son was a religious center of the Cham Empire between the 4th and 13th centuries. Trekking along on mini-bike gives you great opportunity of seeing rural life along the way.
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam is located in the northeastern part of Vietnam and is 165 Km from Hanoi. Known to the Vietnamese as the 8th wonder of the World, Ha Long Bay is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The bay features thousands of limestone isles in as many sizes & shapes.
A community of about 1600 people live amongst Ha Long Bay in four fishing villages. They live on floating houses & are sustained by fishing. Tourism also makes up most of their economy in this region as thousands of tourists & locals alike are attracted to the beautiful landscape of Ha Long Bay.
The best way to experience Ha Long Bay is on a overnight Cruise which the locals call the boats junk. Dinner is served as the boat is anchored in a lagoon overnight and you are awakened by a beautiful sunrise.
Sapa Vietnam lies in the very north west region of Vietnam & is close to the Chinese border. Along with the spectacular scenery of the Tonkinese Alps where Montagard hill tribes have lived for centuries. Trekking in this region you will come across the H’mong tribe people that live in the hills among this beautiful region. Sapa is a colourful town where you can see the locals selling their hand made crafts & produce in the markets.
I arrived in Sapa in the middle of December & it was quite cold & still wet. The dry season is from January to June with the best time to visit between March & May. I took an overnight train from Hanoi & arrived in Sapa about 4am in the morning. After some hot tea & a cold shower i was ready for my first trek. We wore boots & rain gear as it was still raining a bit, after lunch the weather cleared to give us some great views of the mountain ranges.
I would recommend a 3 day trip in Sapa to take in all of the scenery & local culture.
